The Boundary

The Boundary Community Shop and Cafe is open seven days a week and offers the services of the Post Office and dry cleaning as well as a shop and cafe.  Fresh fruit and vegetables are delivered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and fresh milk and cream arrives daily. There is also a zero waste section, where you can purchase dry goods, herbs, spices, and liquids using your own refillable containers. The Boundary sells newspapers and magazines as well as an extensive range of groceries including beer, wine and spirits; chilled and frozen food; fresh bread and freshly baked cakes, soft drinks, ice creams, teas and freshly ground coffee. The cafe is also open 7 days a week, serving delicious cakes, light lunches, and hot drinks to go, but the kitchen is closed for lunch on Mondays.

The Boundary is a social hub in the middle of the village, where both visitors and the local community come together to shop and meet up for delicious food and beverages. This wonderful asset to St Mary Bourne could not have been achieved without the support of the local people. We are so grateful for their commitment in both purchasing shares to raise the funds to make it happen, and in dedicating their time and skills during the process.

How The Boundary came into being!

St Mary Bourne Village Shop had previously traded for 20 years as a community interest company but to raise funds needed to increase the size of the shop and to add a cafe, the company converted to a community benefit society. The Society was registered on 5 April 2022 and the first Management Committee steered the Society, through the raising of the finance for the project with the launch of a share offer, to the completion of the build and equipping the extended and improved premises.  The Society trades as “The Boundary”. A community benefit society is a member-owned organisation that seeks to provide benefits for the community and membership is at the heart of the enterprise.
